Understanding your options
Hair thinning has more than one cause, so there's more than one way to approach it. Below is a plain-language look at the therapies we use — what each one is, and how it may support your hair.
Minoxidil is a well-established, clinically used therapy that supports hair growth and helps prolong the hair-growth (anagen) phase. It's most commonly applied topically to the scalp, and in some medically supervised settings it may be used in a low oral dose. Your provider will determine whether — and how — it fits your plan.
Finasteride works by reducing DHT (dihydrotestosterone) through 5-alpha-reductase inhibition. Because DHT is a key driver of androgen-related (pattern) hair thinning, lowering it may help slow that process and support the hair you have. It's clinically used both orally and, off-label, in topical formulations.
Dutasteride also reduces DHT, and it inhibits both type I and type II 5-alpha-reductase. It may be used off-label to support hair restoration — orally or, as an emerging option, topically — and is always considered on an individualized, physician-directed basis.
How treatments are delivered
Your provider will recommend the right combination for your goals. Options are grouped by how they're used.

- Topical minoxidil (foam or solution)
- Topical 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors (finasteride / dutasteride), used off-label to reduce scalp DHT with potentially fewer systemic effects
- Low-dose oral minoxidil (physician-supervised, off-label)
- Oral finasteride
- Oral dutasteride (off-label for hair restoration)
- Autologous regenerative injections such as PRF / PRP (from your own blood)
- Autologous regenerative injections placed where clinically appropriate
- Note: minoxidil, finasteride and dutasteride are not used as injectables for hair restoration
Physician-directed, personalized
Every hair-restoration plan at ADI MedSpa is reviewed and directed by Dr. Farooque Ahmed, MD. Because responses vary from person to person, we set realistic expectations and tailor therapy to your needs — no two scalps, and no two plans, are exactly alike.
